Life can be hard, and sometimes it seems like God doesn't even care. When faced with difficult trials, many people have resonated with the book of Job--the story of a man who lost nearly everything, seemingly abandoned by God.In this thorough and accessible commentary, Christopher Ash helps us glean encouragement from God's Word by directing our attention to the final explanation and ultimate resolution of Job's story: the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Intended to equip pastors to preach Job's important message, this commentary highlights God's grace and wisdom in the midst of redemptive suffering.Taking a staggeringly honest look at our broken world and the trials that we often face, Ash helps us see God's sovereign purposes for adversity and the wonderful hope that Christians have in Christ.Luke's carefully researched and orderly account of

The only Latin art of war to survive, Vegetius' Epitome was for long a part of the medieval prince's military education. The core of his proposals, the maintenance of a professional standing army, was revolutionary for medieval Europe, while his theory of deterrence through strength remains the foundation of modern Western defence policy.

Tisícročia v minútkach „Sedemnásť slabík. Pridlhé na ozvenu, dosť na vyznanie.“ Takto poeticky definuje starý japonský literárny útvar – haiku (17. – 19. st.) spisovateľ Miroslav Bartoš vo svojej básnickej zbierke Ticho rúk. Zároveň nás týmto trojverším „upozorňuje“ na veršovú skratku a myšlienkovú, pocitovú hĺbku tohto žánru. Kniha pozostáva z vyše 200 haiku, ktoré rozdelil do dvoch častí: Pramienky ticha a Dar ticha. Uvedené názvy jasne vypovedajú o jeho zámere – vyvolať v nás široké spektrum pocitov, no predovšetkým vnútorný pokoj a súlad. Bartošovu knihu haiku by sme mohli prirovnať k tzv. jednohubkám, k minútkam s výraznou, bohatou chuťou, ktorú autor dosahuje výberom pestrých výrazových prostriedkov (poetizmy, novotvary, neologizmy, a i. V tichu. Slávka Sudorová

The definitive book on tiling and geometric patterns, this magnificently illustrated volume features 520 figures and more than 100 tables. Accessible to anyone with a grasp of geometry, it offers numerous graphic examples of two-dimensional spaces covered with interlocking figures, in addition to related problems and references. Suitable for geometry courses as well as independent study, this inspiring book is geared toward students, professional mathematicians, and readers interested in patterns and shapes—artists, architects, and crystallographers, among others. Along with helpful examples from mathematics and geometry, it draws upon models from fields as diverse as crystallography, virology, art, philosophy, and quilting. The self-contained chapters need not be read in sequence, and each concludes with an excellent selection of notes and references. The first seven chapters can be used as a classroom text, and the final four contain fascinating browsing material, including detailed surveys of color patterns, groups of color symmetry, and tilings by polygons.

Hold On to Your Dreams is the first biography of the musician and composer Arthur Russell, one of the most important but least known contributors to New York's downtown music scene during the 1970s and 1980s. With the exception of a few dance recordings, including "Is It All Over My Face?" and "Go Bang! #5", Russell's pioneering music was largely forgotten until 2004, when the posthumous release of two albums brought new attention to the artist. This revival of interest gained momentum with the issue of additional albums and the documentary film Wild Combination. Based on interviews with more than seventy of his collaborators, family members, and friends, Hold On to Your Dreams provides vital new information about this singular, eccentric musician and his role in the boundary-breaking downtown music scene.Tim Lawrence traces Russell's odyssey from his hometown

It is said that there are more miles of canals in Birmingham than in Venice. The canals contributed much to the growth of Birmingham bringing coal and merchandise into the town. From 1838 to 1932 Birmingham continued to grow and absorb neighboring communities. Originally independent canal companies were responsible for these waterways, today run by British Waterways, whose local office at Ocker Hill serves Birmingham and the Black Country. Although part of the national network, each Birmingham canal retains its original identity and most are still in waster and regularly used. This illustrated book captures the old Birmingham canals under busy trade days and compares them to the twilight years and the modern more recreational

400th Anniversary EditionFor 400 years, the Authorized Version of the Bible popularly known as the King James Version has been beloved for its majestic phrasing and stately cadences. No other book has so profoundly influenced our language and our theology. Over time, however, the text has suffered subtle and occasionally troublesome alterations. This edition preserves the original 1611 printing. Word for word and page for page, the text with its original marginal notes, preface, and other introductory material appears as it first did. The sole concession to modernity is a far more readable roman typeface set by nineteenth-century master printers.A valuable and essential addition to every Bible library.John R. Danish poet and novelist Hans Christian Andersen (1805-1875) is best known for the dozens of fairy tales he wrote, including "The Little Mermaid," "The Ugly Duckling," and "The Snow Queen." Andersen's sense of fantasy, power of description, and acute sensitivity are strikingly evident in his autobiography. Andersen masterfully depicts the extreme poverty of his provincial childhood and the international celebrity of his later years, and also provides insights into the sources of many of his most famous tales.

A masterful account of the assassins who hunted down the perpetrators of the Armenian GenocideIn 1921, a tightly knit band of killers set out to avenge the deaths of almost one million victims of the Armenian Genocide. They were a humble bunch: an accountant, a life insurance salesman, a newspaper editor, an engineering student, and a diplomat. Together they formed one of the most effective assassination squads in history. They named their operation Nemesis, after the Greek goddess of retribution. The assassins were survivors, men defined by the massive tragedy that had devastated their people. With operatives on three continents, the Nemesis team killed six major Turkish leaders in Berlin, Constantinople, Tiflis, and Rome, only to disband and suddenly disappear. The story of this secret operation has never been fully told, until now.Eric Bogosian goes beyond

We are all type consumers and interact with type in our everyday lives. Typefaces in all shapes and sizes evoke an emotional response and trigger associated memories before we've even read the words. How to Draw Type and Influence People shows how we use type to understand different messages. Each typeface is introduced and explained and then creative exercises show the reader how to draw each font and invite them to explore the associations evoked by the styles, to reveal why they have come about and how to create their own versions. Ideal for all those who work with type daily, this book provides an accessible way in to the world of typefaces, for the general reader, but also graphic designers who want to explore fonts in more detail and design their own letterforms.

Dohromady odjelo z Československa do Norska 37 dětí.
