In this sense, the book is focusing on essentials of medical examination from birth to adolescence. In medicine, the term “propedeutics” or “propedeutic” specifically refers to preliminary collection of data about patient by observation, palpation, temperature measurement, etc., without using specialized diagnostic procedures.
