This is a revised version of the original 1982 edition. The phraseological examples are discussed in terms of their distinguishing formal and semantic characteristics and described from a semasiological and onomasiological perspective. The numerous examples taken from literature and the press have been updated and a major appendix added on the development of research in this area since the 80s.
