The present text is a university writing books in which the author demonstrates a high level of theoretical knowledge in this field the ability to choose what is essential and universal, and apart from incidental and peripheral phenomena ability to present facts and knowledge language and form that make the dry linguistics engaging reading. The present text reasonably basic mapping and for students of English, key areas of semantics while referring to the diverse understanding of the different subevents. Each problem is presented as evidenced by a number of examples that contribute significantly to the understanding of copending issues. These illustrative examples are not limited to the English language. Illustration of different linguistic phenomena examples of several languages to students, first, to understand the diversity of structures of different languages and also to realize the possibility of generalising individual principles of semantics.Predložený text je vysokou školou písania učebníc, v ktorom autor demonštruje vysokú úroveň teoretického poznania v predmetnej oblasti schopnosť vybrať to podstatné a všeobecné a odhliadať od náhodných a periférnych javov schopnosť prezentovať fakty a poznatky jazykom a formou, ktoré robia zo suchej lingvistiky pútavé čítanie. Predložený text primerane mapuje základné a pre študentov anglistiky, kľúčové oblasti sémantiky poukazujúc zároveň na rôznorodé chápanie jednotlivých čiastkových javov. Každý prezentovaný problém je doložený množstvom príkladov, ktoré výrazne prispievajú k pochopeniu pojednávanej problematiky. Tieto ilustratívne príklady sa neobmedzujú iba na anglický jazyk. Ilustrácia jednotlivých jazykových javov príkladmi z viacerých jazykov umožňuje študentom jednak pochopiť rôznorodosť štruktúry rôznych jazykov a jednak si uvedomiť možnosť zovšeobecnenia jednotlivých princípov sémantiky
